I went to purchase a TAP Card—like Boston’s CharlieCard—from the Metro today. Surprisingly, they didn’t offer stored cash value as an option on the card; it’s probably one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard all year, considering the system (software and all) that’s implemented does support such a function. I guess I’ll have to carry around cash and quarters with me the next time I need to ride the Metro.
